Metal Spinning with Alternative Materials
Specialized applications sometimes call for materials not commonly used in the metal spinning process. Inconel® and Monel® are among these materials. Inconel® has a high Nickel content, over 60%, alloyed with Chromium (Cr) and Molybdenum (Mo). This material has good oxidation and corrosion resistance and is often used in the chemical and pollution control industries. Monel® has a higher Nickel content than Inconel® and is alloyed with copper. This material has good resistance to salt, seawater and caustic conditions and is often found in water meters and valves.
The characteristics of these materials and compatibility with the metal spinning process make it essential to evaluate each application on a case by case basis.
